description Randolph County State Recreation Area is a mecca for outdoor recreational activities. Fishing, hiking, picnicking, boating, hunting and camping are just a few of the choices, keeping even the most avid outdoorsman content. Located five miles northeast of Chester in Randolph County, it lies in the rolling hill country of southern Illinois. Offering a cool retreat from hot summer days, well shaded picnic areas, hiking trails and scenic forest stands await park visitors. Randolph County Lake is a 65 acre clear-water lake and is stocked with walleye, saugeye, channel catfish, redear and bluegill sunfish, and rainbow trout. Game fish such as largemouth bass, green sunfish, bullhead and crappie also can be found, so no angler should be disappointed. The area is renowned for its wooded areas and abundance of songbirds and wildlife. Thirteen miles of horse trails provide riders with the same panorama of sights and sounds.
drivingDirection Site is located just northeast of Chester on Palestine Road. Coming south on State Route 3 turn left at Shawneetown Trail crossroad. Turn right on Palestine Road. Follow signs. Entrance is on left on Palestine Road. Coming north on State Route 3 to Chester. Follow signs in Chester to Palestine Road. Entrance to right on Palestine Road.

importantInformation Camping fees are refundable if cancellation notification is received no later than 3 days prior to arrival. Shelter Reservations are non-refundable unless the area is closed by the Department, in this circumstance the Site Manager will contact you prior to your reservation date to cancel and issue your refund. * A responsible adult (18 years of age or older) from the camping party must register for the party and thereby acknowledge compliance with the rules and regulations of the park for the party. * At least one responsible adult must accompany each group of 15 minors. * Special camping rate reductions apply to Illinois residents only. * The maximum length of camping stay from April 1 through October 31 is 14 nights in any 30 day period. * Responsible use of alcohol is permitted in the park and campground. *All pets must be on a leash...Pet owners are responsible for their animal's waste and must dispose of it properly. *All visitors are required to leave the park at or before 10:00 PM. *Groups of 25 or more are required to register in advance with the park office. *Campfires allowed in grills only. No ground fires. Please do not put cans, bottles, etc. in fires. *Please do not throw trash, bottles, cans, etc. into pit toilets. Firewood Ban: It is illegal to bring or possess on IDNR properties any firewood from out-of-state or from a quarantine area or adjacent counties where wood exportation or movement has been prohibited by State or Federal Law..
